Wedding Gown of Holiness
|
||||
Our God of Salvation offers a holy wedding gown to each of his children. The death and resurrection of our Savior gives a wedding gown of righteousness to prepare us for union with Jesus Christ.God and Moses began the priesthood of the OT with a type of wedding gown or covering to make the priests holy. The OT, holy garments that the priests wore, pointed to our wedding gown of holiness from Jesus.3bthat they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest. 43Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants. (Exod. 28:3b, 43, NIV). The priests wore seven separate garments. The holy garments sanctified them for ministry to God in the Holy Place. The seven garments, a type of wedding gown, set them apart and made them holy unto God. The priests could then serve in the Temple. Because the priests wore the specified holy garments, they did not die when they entered God’s presence in the Temple. The Almighty looked at them through the wedding gown of garments that he had specified them to wear. The priests and their families considered it exceedingly important to wear the right holy garments in front of the Sovereign God (Lev. 10:1–7). Wedding gown of holiness from JesusThe OT priesthood and laws preview our covenant with God today. When we trust in Jesus for salvation, he covers us with his wedding gown of righteousness. Our Holy Redeemer gives us undefiled garments that make us worthy (Phil 3:9; Eph. 6:10–18). Isaiah says that the Lord clothes us with garments of salvation. He covers us with robes of righteousness (Isa. 61:10). Wedding Gown from our Savior gives lifeOur Savior promises that we … shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life. Jesus Christ guarantees us that if we win the victory we shall go to Heaven with him forever and ever. Amen! Amen! “Father, we thank you for your overwhelming grace and compassion that comes to each of us. We thank you Lord because you cover us with your perfection and forgive us. Precious Lord, we look forward to that moment when we see your True Glory....” Our Union—Our Holiness We have a union with God: by this union, we have eternal life. No one on this earth or in Heaven has the strength to break the bond between our Father and us. Satan cannot break it, nor can any other power on earth or in Heaven. Nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:37–39). We have a free will, and only we can break our union with God. We can break it if we harden our hearts to God and to his Word. Wedding Gown Miracle of HolinessA few years ago, I worked with a Southern Baptist pipe fitter. We talked about the Lord and the churches. I could never get him to express his feelings about his Savior. Then one day I said, “Jesse, when God looks at me through the blood of Jesus he sees me as perfect.” Jesse wouldn’t talk to me for two weeks. He acted as if I was unclean. Finally after several weeks we began to talk once more. Jesse told me that we’re all sinners, and no one’s perfect but Jesus Christ. It’s true: Jesse’s right! Everyone’s born into sin and remains a sinner until they die. Only Jesus Christ walked on this earth as perfect. Each of us sins, and we cannot save ourselves. Only the blood of Jesus by his wedding gown can cover our sins. Wedding Gown Covers our SinJesse finally permitted me to explain what I meant when I said, “God sees me without sin.” God is Holy, and it’s a true miracle that he sees his children as holy. When God looks at us through the shed blood of his holy wedding gown, he sees us as perfect. God doesn’t see our sin: he only sees the perfection of our Savior. 21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21, NIV). 21Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation (Col. 1:21, 22, NIV). Our God of Grace says, in both the OT and the NT, that he doesn’t remember our sins after we ask him to forgive us (Isa. 43:25; Micah 7:19; and Heb. 10:17). If we believe that the Bible’s true, we need to accept God’s entire Word. Why Do Christians Hold On to Sin Some Christians go through life saying, “I’m a Christian saved by grace—I’m a Christian saved by grace!” Then they think about their sins and don’t forgive themselves. Some of the Father’s children see him as a stern judge waiting to punish them. They don’t understand the love, grace, and mercy that the Savior offers us. Jesus came to give us truth. He told his disciples that the truth would set them free (John 8:32). So Christ came to free us from death, bondage, and sin. Paul said that we need to accept freedom in Christ; we should not go back to slavery under sin and the Law (Gal. 5:1). Why then do some Christians hang on to their past sins? When a person asks our Faithful God to forgive his sins, from that time on the Lord doesn’t see any of his past sins. Our forgiving God sees our record clean, without even a smudge. When God looks at us through his wedding gown of holiness, he only sees the perfection of Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! Amen! Jesus said on the cross: “it is finished.” Why then does anyone want to take the saving grace and work of Jesus Christ, and believe that it’s not sufficient for their BIG SIN (Gal. 3:1–5)? God said “it is finished,” so don’t doubt it.
